Business Central Wave April 1 2022: this is new

Every year, Microsoft releases two major updates for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central in April and October, also known as ‘waves’. It is now April again, which means BC is being updated with Wave April 1, 2022. This wave introduces several new features that benefit you as a user. We want to explain the most important changes to you.

Business Central Wave 1 2022: what can you expect?

First of all, it is good to know that Business Central has been around for more than 30 years and has changed considerably during that period. The well-known on-premise Dynamics Navision has now become a fully cloud-based application. In general, Business Central Wave 1 2022 will primarily feature functional improvements and even greater user-friendliness. The Business Central Wave April 2022 brings more than 50 improvements, but we will highlight the most important ones for you.

1. Use Excel to design reports

Reports are, of course, crucial for gaining insight into new capabilities and improvements. Thanks to Wave 1 2022, users can create report layouts in Excel. These layouts can then also be edited and saved in Microsoft Business Central. Users can therefore now utilize all formatting options in Excel, such as scroll bars, charts, graphs, and pivot tables. Thanks to this improvement, it becomes much easier to display and analyze the required data.

2. New capabilities for financial reporting

The chart of accounts is the primary tool for creating financial reports in Business Central. Wave 1 2022 makes report generation easier. Users can now display their reports in the desired layout to easily identify them and find the necessary data at a glance.

3. Synchronize sales orders in both directions in Business Central and Sales

Thanks to Business Central wave 1 2022, users can synchronize in both directions between Business Central and Dynamics 365 Sales. As a result, sales representatives are now always up to date with the latest changes and the status of quotes and orders. As soon as a change occurs in one application, it is automatically synchronized and applied to the other application.

4. Improved integration with Microsoft Teams

Microsoft is constantly working to improve the integration between Business Central and Teams. The previous Business Central Wave in October 2021 already introduced several crucial improvements, including the ability to send chat messages via Teams from Business Central. In the April 2022 wave, the detail pane gets more screen space, and it is possible to display more fields and actions simultaneously. The FactBox is also displayed automatically if there is sufficient space. Additionally, users can open Business Central in the browser from the detail pane in Teams.

5. Add email attachments to Business Central from Outlook

6. Check entered data while you work

With the arrival of this feature, Business Central validates entered data in documents as you work, preventing posting problems before they occur. Visual indicators notify users if potential problems arise, improving productivity, reducing the risk of errors, and saving time.

Business Central Wave April 2022: all improvements

As mentioned earlier, Business Central is being improved in more than 50 areas with the new update, and we have selected the most important ones for you. Curious about the full list of improvements? View it here.
