“As a person from the North, I had to get used to that first”

“My career started in 2005 at a company in Leiden. There, I quickly felt it wasn’t the right place for me. Fortunately, I found my way to another organization, where I first came into contact with Business Central, which is still known as Navision. During that period, I met many people who now also work at Bluace, such as Pieter Bart, Mark, and Pieter. In 2020, I started at a new employer, but after eight months, I received a call one evening from Mark. He suggested we chat, and not long after, in 2021, I started at Bluace. The first conversation with Mark was immediately positive. We reminisced about our time together, and he enthusiastically talked about his company. The job interview also went well, strengthening my good feeling.” says Floris, Technical Consultant at Bluace. Floris was born and raised in the Drentse village of Vledder. He now lives back in his childhood home, which he has bought. Together with his wife and two sons aged 12 and 14, they form a cozy and musical family. ‘Music plays a big role in our lives; I enjoy listening to metal and blues rock, among other genres. Friday has been renamed to ‘pirate Friday’,’ Floris continues. Besides his family and work, those kinds of musical moments and scouting provide an excellent outlet for him.

“Initially, I started at Bluace as a Business Central developer. However, over time, I have shifted more towards .NET development. This was unexpected beforehand, but I now enjoy it a lot,” says Floris. Although he occasionally does some work in Business Central, his focus is now mainly on .NET. “My workday usually starts with checking the logs to see if there are any errors in the functions of our TMI product. After that, it depends on the schedule that comes my way. An important part of my work occurs within the Business Central, Ortec, and Sigmax triangle. I often end my day with a bit of data correction. In between, there can always be a support call, but the focus is improving and maintaining our standard products,” Floris explains further.

Floris describes the culture at Bluace as ‘Western’: direct, open, and sometimes sharp. ‘As a Northerner, I had to get used to that in the beginning, but it has its charm,’ he says with a grin. ‘I’m not often in the office, but when I am, the atmosphere is good, and the colleagues are pleasant to work with. I also have nice and professional contact with colleagues via Teams, which makes remote working enjoyable,’ Floris explains. For the future, Floris has no grand plans or drastic ambitions. ‘I am satisfied with how things are going now and hope to continue this pleasantly.’
