5 tips for digitalization

1. If you do everything, you do nothing well

By choosing to do everything, they will be more attractive. But often, that is not the case at all. After all, you always pay more in a specialty store than in a regular shop. If you do everything, you do nothing well. With a particular specialization, you maintain focus. And if you were to do everything, you would be doing a bit of everything. This is really no different in the subject of digitization. Be careful and make choices. Where can you make a difference, and where is the most profit? Where is your strength? Always focus on these matters.

2. Don’t do everything at once during the digitalization

The second tip goes hand in hand with the first tip we just gave you. Especially not trying to do everything at once. Focus on what you are working on. Do that well and with full conviction. It is not a problem to carry out digitization in specific steps and maintain a pace the organization can follow.

3. Involve all stakeholders, but don’t compromise

Every digitalization brings with it a specific organizational change. Such a managerial change, of course, also concerns your stakeholders. People are creatures of habit and generally do not like change, especially if they find the current working procedure perfectly fine. It is always important to involve stakeholders as much as possible to create support, understanding, and enthusiasm. However, keep in mind that you should not compromise. Your organization makes the final choices, and you make these for specific reasons. Endless discussions shift these choices and the ultimate goal you initially had in mind. Instead, explain why you make confident choices, what the intended benefits are, and what this benefit means in the daily lives of your stakeholders.

4. Ensure that there are as many benefits as possible

To ensure that people embrace the change by digitalization, you must clarify that it is truly necessary. Therefore, ensure that there are as many benefits as possible and explain these to those involved. After all, the benefits are the reasons to start in the first place. If digitalization yields little for your organization, the motivation to get started will naturally be less.

5. Choose a consistent, coherent approach to digitalization

The fifth tip to avoid pitfalls is a consistent, coherent approach. It is simply a fact that a consistent, cohesive approach achieves the best results. It is nearly impossible to achieve the desired results if you do not make choices consistently and take the right actions accordingly. Therefore, ensure that everyone adheres to agreements and is vigilant to maintain clarity and focus. If you have made a particular choice, you undoubtedly did so for a well-considered reason. Stick to that and be consistent, so that the result you have in mind remains that way and people know where they stand. If you are not consistent, you might not do it at all. Inconsistent actions often lead to ambiguity, questions, and distrust among those involved and the staff, doing more harm than good.
