Does your organization have multiple locations, and do you manage them with Microsoft Business Central? In Business Central, it can be challenging to manage all these locations, as you need to use different SKUs for each item/variant/location combination and set them up manually. However, the Inventory Templates application from Bluace makes it easy to keep track of locations through preset templates.
What is the Inventory Templates application?
Suppose you have an installation company with a central location and fifty service vans in which you also store parts and materials that your technicians need daily, such as repair assignments. To prevent components from running out in the service bus and your technician from being unable to repair them, it is logical that you want to set a minimum number of parts for each bus. If you manage these different locations with Microsoft Business Central, it can be quite a challenge with the standard functionality. You must set everything manually for each location, even if something changes. With Bluace’s Inventory Templates, you can create templates, which you can assign to each location to which this applies. Using these templates saves you much time and makes it much easier to implement changes.
How does the Inventory Templates application work?
If you use the Inventory Templates app, you start by creating templates. For example, you can create templates for specific item groups, functions, tasks, resource groups, and more. Once the template is ready, you assign one or more of these templates to a specific location. These will be combined if you set more than one template to a location. All quantities will be added together if articles are present in multiple templates. This does not apply to the order quantity, as the highest quantity is automatically used. Even if different templates are used for the replenishment system or ordering policy, you cannot combine them. You must assign one template as default.
Once you have completed all settings, the synchronization of the templates will start to create SKUs and transfer routes. Each location gets its own SKU for each item or variant unless a particular item is excluded. If one of the assigned supply templates have “transfer” as its replenishment system, transfer routes are also created between those locations.
Furthermore, the Inventory Templates application can create reports to see if there is excess stock in one of the locations. Such an excess inventory exists when the current inventory exceeds the minimum required inventory plus minimum order quantity plus present demand. In addition, the application gives you the option of recovering the surplus by creating a transfer order.
